
Mustafa(pbuh) Science and Technology Foundation (MSTF), with the vision of promoting peace, security, and the welfare of humanity began its activities in 2012. It has defined its mission as advancing science and technology throughout the Islamic world. The Young Scientist Medal is one of the MSTF’s programs, established through the endowment of cash prizes by Mustafa(pbuh) Prize laureates in 2019, 2023, and 2025; namely, Prof. Ugur Sahin, Prof. Omid Farokhzad, and Dr. Vahab Mirrokni. The first award ceremony was held in September 2025.
The Young Scientist Medal, awarded every two years, recognizes the scientific merit and excellence of remarkable young scholars from Islamic countries under the age of 40 who, through cutting-edge research, drive major advances in science and technology and contribute to improving the quality of human life.
Recipients in every field receive a certificate of honor, the medal, and a cash prize of 10,000 USD. This cash prize is supported by benefactors and patrons dedicated to advancing science and technology. Recipients of this medal are honored in a ceremony attended by scholars and distinguished guests from around the world.
The medal will honor impactful contributions in the following fields:
- Life and Medical Science and Technology
- Basic and Engineering Sciences
- Computer science
Eligibility Criteria
1. The Young Scientist Medal is awarded to scientists under the age of 40 from Islamic countries, regardless of religion, in the fields specified in the call for nominations.
- The age limit of 40 is calculated based on the end of the year in which the medal is awarded, as determined by the MSTF for each award year.
2. Candidates may only be nominated by distinguished scientists or the following scientific institutions: - Universities and research centers
- Scientific associations and technology hubs
- Science academies
- Science and technology parks
3. The evaluation criteria for nominees of the Young Scientist Medal focus on: The outstanding qualities of the work, the scope of its influence, and the characteristics of the scientist behind the work.
